But I'll be kind.
Yes, I find that statement to be ominous.
However, I don't know the context as to why he's smiling.
I know the feelings, but not the full reasons behind it.
His amusement isn't from a joke, but the situation.
The situation is funny due to something else that has happened in the past, or knowledge I do not yet have.
Or hinting at something he's pleased with in the future.
It isn't a sudden and bright burst of enjoyment, but finding something worth smiling about that ties into something else he's looking forward to.
I don't yet know what that is, however.
And so, I can only say it's a statement even if I also find it ominous.
